China should be a partner as Europe moves towards a resource efficient economy, according to EU Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik.
In an interview with Chinese publication Xinhua, the Commissioner said that Europe will need to cooperate with China in order to make resource efficiency a reality and that China’s environmental aims work with Europe’s resource efficiency drive.

He said: “When I look to China’s 12th five-year plan and compare it with the EU’s political documents, I see a lot of similarities…It is a really good basis for cooperation.”
The Commissioner also called for partnership to boost business opportunities for China and the EU from environmental programmes.
