Proposals for an anaerobic digestion plant in Sutton Courtenay, Oxfordshire have been pulled by FCC Environment.
The company had a planning application with Vale of the White Horse District Council to build the AD plant on its existing landfill site in the area.
But it pulled the proposals once planning officials recommended that the application should be refused.
Planning officers said: “The environmentally friendly recycling process to generate electricity through the use of the anaerobic digestion facility is welcomed and the ‘green’ sustainability credentials are acknowledged.
“However, the protection of the rural environment is also important. The proposal would result in the industrialisation and cumulative build up of non-essential buildings, structures, storage, plant and machinery within an open countryside setting where there is no genuine need or wider environmental benefit other than the short-term benefit to the landfill operator business.”
It is understood FCC may submit the application at a later date.
