Drinks container disposal campaign Every Can Counts collected more than 100,000 items at festivals across the UK and Ireland this summer.
The not-for-profit organisation, funded by manufacturers, brands and waste management firms, revealed a 59 per cent year-on-year increase in can collection.
It partnered with major events covering 29 days across the summer months to boost recycling of drinks containers.
Every Can Counts took a giant polar bear made of recycled aluminium cans to Bristol in early June to mark World Environment Day.
The campaign group then headed to Donnington Park to engage with more than 2,500 people at Download Festival, where drinks containers were exchanged for rewards including T-shirts and keyrings.
Every Can Counts placed third at the #RedBullSoapboxRace in London with its Chitty Chitty Can Can vehicle.
Other events covered as the summer progressed included 2000Trees and Latitude Festival.
Chris Latham-Warde, programme manager at Every Can Counts, said: “Thanks to the enthusiasm of festival goers and our dedicated team of ambassadors, we’ve not only recycled over 100,000 cans across the UK, but also hopefully inspired thousands to make recycling a part of their daily lives.”
