Finnish waste management firm Syklo has acquired compatriot and biocomposite producer Elastopoli with a view to increasing its capacity.
The Oulu-based company bought the full share capital of the Sastamala outfit and said it would triple the production line in its pilot plant.
Syklo said the deal would reinforce its circular-economy drive in line with its growth strategy.
The company said its goals were to achieve a higher degree of material recovery and to create more valuable products from the recyclate.
Syklo plans to build a commercial-scale biocomposite plant in conjunction with Finland’s largest plastic recycling plant in Hyvinkää.
Elastopoli is a pioneer in the production of pulp-based cellulose biocomposite that can rival plastics and glass-fibre.
“Its technology is internationally scalable and their biocomposite has the best technical properties on the market,” said Syklo managing director Teemu Koskela. “The product can also be piloted and tailored to meet specific customer needs.
“Elastopoli is not merely a research and development company; it already serves large international clients who are eager to purchase more biocomposites than the pilot plant in Sastamala can currently produce.”
