A blaze started over the weekend at Lawrence Recycling in Kidderminster.

It is the second fire to afflict the facility in the last six months, with reports stating that smoke and flames from the fire could be seen for up to 20 miles.

Around 100 firefighters were called to deal with the fire at its height, with hundreds of tonnes of cardboard and plastic ablaze.

The plant was closed when the fire started on Sunday, other than the security team that reported the fire.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue district commander Grant Wills said: “We have had a meeting with commanders to plan the way forward for the fire at Lawrence’s. We still have six pumps at the scene and we will be here for some time yet.

“We are now using heavy machinery to drag out burning material, which will help cut down on the smoke.”
