The fire is believed to have begun accidentally and caused minor damage to the building, destroyed bins and caused damage to a materials handler.

Sita UK regional communications manager Mike Dobson said: “In the early evening of Monday 6 June, a Sita UK employee called the fire brigade to report a fire at our Mannings Heath materials recycling facility. The fire brigade turned up promptly and put out the fire, which was restricted mainly to a few waste bins within the building. Nobody was injured as a result of the fire, and an investigation is underway to determine the source.

“The building has received superficial damage and a Bobcat mobile plant was also damaged. The baling facility for recycled materials is not currently operational but is expected to re-open on Wednesday or Thursday this week. The site accepts materials for recycling from a variety of sources and we apologise for any short-term inconvenience this may cause to our customers.”
