Highlander International Recycling is set to invest £1.5 million in a new site to focus on specialist services and high-grade paper recycling.
The company already has a facility in East Kilbride, but this is close to capacity.
At its new site on Brechin Business Park, it will employ 15 to 20 people to shred, cut and bale paper from the Arjo Wiggins mill in Aberdeen and expand its security shredding services north of Aberdeen.
It expects to receive 200 tonnes per week once the facility reaches full operational capacity.
In its planning statement, Highlander International Recycling wrote: “As we are now at capacity at our East Kilbride Recycling Centre, our plan is to open a second site in Brechin. Here, we will focus on more specialist services and high-grade paper recycling.
“Now the largest privately owned waste paper processors in Scotland with national coverage, all paper north of Perth will be diverted to Brechin reducing our carbon footprint and freeing up capacity in East Kilbride.”
The new site will contain two mill size balers and a shredder.
Highlander International Recycling hopes to open the new site in the middle of this year.
