Holcim acquires rail-ballast recycler

Low-carbon construction products giant Holcim has acquired rail-ballast recycler Land Recovery.

The deal will see all 85 employees of the Cheshire firm taken on by the Swiss-headquartered multi-national.

Holcim said the acquisition would expand its access to demolition waste.

Land Recovery recycled more than 300,000 tonnes of such material into precast concrete and asphalt last year.

The firm also turns used rail ballast into new assets for the UK rail network.

Holcim chief executive Miljan Gutovic said: “Land Recovery strengthens Holcim’s leading position in circular construction and advances our group target of recycling 10 million tonnes of construction demolition materials in 2024.

“I look forward to welcoming all 85 employees of Land Recovery and investing in our next era of growth together.”

Founded in 1982, Land Recovery has four facilities across the UK.
