Plastics recycler Indigo Environmental has been taken over by online retailer The Hut Group (THG).

Based in Manchester, THG has become an internet shopping colossus selling predominantly beauty, fashion and health products.

Although it took over Indigo Environmental in March 2021, the plastics recyclers has only started demonstrating its ownership by showing it is part of the THG Eco division on its website.

THG also bought Preston Plastics last year.

The aim of these two acquisitions is to enable the online retailer to recycle more of its own plastic waste as part of its sustainability ambitions.

Indigo Environmental director of recycling Paul Rendle-Barnes said: “The acquisition of Indigo Environmental Group, including Three Counties Reclamation, by THG means that our new owner can make its business more circular.

“By having the capacity to recycle the waste it generates, THG is able to meet its goals of developing closed-loop solutions to reduce, recycle or repurpose the waste it generates within the North West.

“We are delighted by the investment that has been made in Indigo Environmental Group by a company, with a shared vision committed to improving its impact through its THG x Planet Earth sustainability strategy.”
