Leading waste industry figures will give evidence about crime in the sector in a hearing at Parliament this week.

They will speak in front of peers on the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee at the Palace of Westminster on Wednesday 3 September.

The cross-party panel is undertaking an inquiry into waste crime with a focus on “serious and organised” elements such as illegal sites and unsanctioned dumping.

Peers on the committee said they would “seek to understand the avenues for and prevalent forms of waste crime and their impacts”.

The inquiry also aims to “assess the efficacy of current regulatory, monitoring and enforcement regimes and consider the government’s plans to address the problem”.

Veolia chief operating officer for treatment and hazardous waste in the UK Donald Macphail will speak to the committee on Wednesday.

He will be joined by Environmental Services Association head of regulation Sam Corp.

Dan Cooke, director of policy, communications and external affairs at the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, completes the line-up.
