Paper and packaging producer International Paper has announced that it has acquired Spanish packaging firm Envases Grau, for an undisclosed figure.
Corrugated cardboard packaging is one the main businesses of International Paper, and the company has said this acquisition is part of its strategy to achieve a better position within the markets.
International Paper general manager of corrugated paperboard packaging in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) said: “Envases Grau is a well-established company known for its excellent service and the quality of its products. Its purchase complements the current network of packaging plants and expands the size and weight of International Paper’s business in Spain.”
Envases Grau has a conversion plant and two assembly centres in Eastern Spain. It currently manufactures 15,000 tonnes of corrugated cardboard and wood packaging annually and employs around 70 people.
International Paper also completed the conversion of its paper mill in Madrid for the manufacturing of low-gram recycled paper that supports its corrugated packaging business in EMEA.
