Irish waste management company Beauparc has invested €66 million (£59.8 million) in an LDPE recycling facility and a materials recycling facility (MRF) in the UK.
The LDPE facility will be based in Cotesbach in Leicestershire and will shred, waste and pelletise the material when it comes on stream next month.
While the MRF will be based near Grantham in Lincolnshire and will become operational next year and will segregate plastics, cardboard, and metals.
The company, which owns the Panda and Greenstar waste management brands in Ireland, and last month spent €22 million (£19 million) on buying Leeds-based LSS Waste Management.
Beauparc chief executive Brian McCabe said: “We now have a firm base to build the group further in the UK. Our businesses cover Scotland, Yorkshire, the Midlands, the north-west, and locations within the south of England too.
“Our UK growth programme will now move into a consolidation phase, adding connectivity between our facilities. To do this, we are currently looking at other acquisitions within the UK.
“We are showing confidence by significant further growth through innovation and acquisition in the UK despite Covid and the continued challenges of Brexit over the last few years. It means that in Ireland, the UK and Holland, we now employ over 3,200 people across 51 sites, processing 4 million tonnes of waste per year.

Investments like these are vital, playing a significant part in reducing the impact that we have on the environment, introducing innovative solutions and providing the UK with critical infrastructure for the circular economy.”
