Reuters has reported that McDonald’s has set targets to switch to environmentally friendly packaging and offer recycling services throughout its chain.
The restaurant currently uses half of customer packaging from renewable, recycled or certified sources, but said it is aiming to make this 100% by 2025.
Recycling facilities will also be made available throughout all of its restaurants by 2025, and the company has also said it will eliminate foam packaging from its supply chain by the end of 2018.
Speaking to Reuters, McDonald’s chief supply chain and sustainability offer Francesca DeBiase said: “We have a responsibility to use our scale for good to make changes that will have a meaningful impact across the globe.”
She added that the company will work with experts in the industry, local governments and environmental groups to create new recycling programmes, packaging designs and help educate customers and employees.
