Metals quiet as market prepares for Christmas

The metals markets have been stable for the last few days compared to the volatility seen for most of the year.

Three-month copper crept up to $7,425 (£4,731) on Wednesday from $7,302 (£4,671) a day earlier.

Aluminium was down just a touch to $1,980 (£1,262) yesterday from Tuesday’s $1,989 (£1,272). Alloy was priced at $1,900 (£1,211) on Wednesday from $1,898 (£1,214) the day before.

Lead increased a little to $1,960 (£1,249) from $1,950 (£1,247). Nickel moved downwards to $18,540 (£11,813) from $18,575 (£11,882).

Tin was up to $19,075 (£12,154) from $18,750 (£11,994). Zinc also increased to $1,872 (£1,180) from $1,853 (£1,185).

Steel was unchanged on $535 but fell £1 to £341.
