More carrier bags used, but also more recycled content WRAP figures show

Data published by WRAP has shown that 8.5 billion single use carrier bags were used by customers to UK supermarkets in 2014.

This is an increase on the 8.3 billion used in 2013, but still represents a 30% decline compared to the 12.2 billion used in 2006 when reporting began.

However, between 2006 and 2014 there has been a 50% reduction in the amount of virgin polymer used, which indicates that recycled content has increased.
