Companies shipping recyclable materials into Europe will be able to see where shipping delays are taking place at major ports and border crossings thanks to Galileo Green Lane.
In an initiative launched by the European Global Navigation Satellite Systems Agency (GSA), which is the provider of the European Navigation System Galileo, the app and website shows where ‘Green Lane’ crossings take place with no more than 15 minutes on internal borders.
As part of the coronavirus response, the European Commission requested that Member States designate border crossing points as these ‘Green Lane’ crossings. Movement of recyclate and waste are considered essential movements that can access the ‘Green Lanes’.
Galileo Green Lane has been developed by shipment visibility provider Sixfold, application development specialists FoxCom and consulting firm SpaceTec Partners on behalf of GSA.
Through Galileo Green Lane, users gain access to a real-time overview of border traffic hold-ups and shows where there might be increasing inspections as a result of coronavirus.
The app is initially available on Android devices only, but there are plans to introduce an iOS version. The map, and more information, is also available at https://galileogreenlane.eu/
