Plastipak has opened the expansion of its Luxembourg PET recycling facility that was first opened in 2008.
Annual production capacity has been increased by 136% following 12 months of installation and commissioning.
The recycling facility is co-located with Plastipak’s preform and container manufacturing facility that converts washed rPET flakes from post-consumer bottles into food grade recycled PET pellets.
This facility principally serves the German and Benelux food and beverage markets.
It also complements Plastipak’s existing recycling facilities in France, UK and USA. The company also recently announced a new facility in Toledo, Spain.
Plastipak European division executive managing director Pedro Martins said: “This latest investment to increase our capacity in rPET production actively demonstrates Plastipak’s long-term commitment to bottle-to-bottle recycling and our leadership in the PET circular economy.
“Plastipak is the leading producer of food-grade rPET in Europe, with the majority of the post-consumer recycled material we use in Europe produced in-house.”
