Polytag has installed four plastic-detection units at recycling facilities in Wales.
The tracking technology outfit said the items would improve efficiency at material recovery facilities in Conwy, Gwynedd, Pembrokeshire and Anglesey.
Polytag is growing the network of plastic-detection units in place at sites across the UK for its growing Ecotrace programme.
Brands that apply the Deeside firm’s invisible watermarks to their packaging are able to gain access to data about the lifecycle of their products, helping them set internal targets or improve reporting.
The four units in Wales join those installed in Newry, Northern Ireland, and Edmonton and Teesside in England.
Polytag chief executive Alice Rackley, said: “Wales is already a leader in recycling, currently holding the UK’s highest average recycling rate at a very impressive 66.5 per cent.
“Installing these four new plastic-detection units across the country will generate invaluable data on what is being recycled and when, empowering brands to take full responsibility for their recycled packaging while also striving to increase that number even more.”
She added: “As a Welsh owned business, it’s especially rewarding to see our technology embraced with open arms and to have the opportunity to build on its stellar credentials. We’re excited to see the results it yields in what we are confident will be a remarkable move towards a fully circular economy.”
