Chemical plastic recycler Quantafuel and waste management company Geminor have established a new plastics recycling company called Polynate.
Polynate will operate in the Nordic countries and UK. Ralf Schöpwinkel, the current chief strategic officer at Geminor, will leave his role to become chief executive of Polynate.
The new company will focus on plastic waste and its main operation will be supplying Quantafuel’s current mechanical plastic recycling facility in Norway and chemical plastic recycling facility in Denmark. It will also supply plastic to Quantafuel’s joint project with Eurazeo that will create Denmark’s largest plastic sorting facility when it opens in early 2024.
Polynate will also enter the British market where Quantfuel plans several plastics to liquid plants.
Geminor chief executive Kjetil Vikingstad said: “Polynate will be an important contributor in the sustainable treatment and handling of international plastic waste.
“Establishing Polynate together with Quantafuel is strategically important for Geminor. Our ambition is to increase our market share and secure new downstream solutions for plastics. It is becoming increasingly important to sort plastics from residual waste, both to secure more feedstock for new plastic products, but also to reduce the fossil content in the waste that is sent to energy recovery.”
