Exeter City Council is joined by East Devon, Mid Devon, North Devon and Teignbridge district councils.

Glass collected under the deal will be taken to Recresco’s plant at Cwmbran in South Wales to be turned into glass cullet.

This will be used in the manufacture of new glass bottles and glass mineral wool.

Roger Croad, cabinet member for public health, communities and equality at Devon County Council, said: “We look forward to working with Recresco to drive greater volumes of Devon glass into remelt.

“Devon County Council has set ambitious targets to achieve net-zero by 2030. Sustainable recycling practices form an important part of this journey.”

Recresco business development executive Lyndsey Faulkner said: “We are honoured to have been chosen as the preferred glass off-taker for Devon. It’s wonderful to see the team’s commitment to sustainable practices being recognised in multiple regions.”
