Recyclable barrier papers launched for food packaging applications

Packaging giants UPM Specialty Papers and Royal Vaassen have developed recyclable barriers for food containment.

The Barryrwrap range is built on UPM Solide Lucent barrier base papers.

It is said to provide “excellent” barrier protection against moisture, oxygen and light.

The product has been successfully tested for “demanding” applications and includes a canister format suitable for chips or drink powders.

Barryrwrap Everest is the highest performing solution in the range, developed for instant coffee and other dry products requiring maximum protection.

With its fully recyclable paper structure, Barryrwrap Everest is a recyclable alternative to traditional aluminium laminates.

Royal Vaassen sales manager Mark Gerritsen said the papers “offer strong protection with a focus on performance and circularity” and were “suitable for existing production lines and products such as coffee, powders and stock”.

Mika Uusikartano, a senior manager at UPM Specialty Papers, added that the Solide Lucent base paper was “easy to convert into various structures” as well as being “exceptionally strong, smooth, and dense”.
