While OCC exports increased a little in November 2022, the latest HMRC data also shows falls for exports of mixed paper and news & pams.
A total of 190,616 tonnes of OCC was exported in this month, up from 188,302 tonnes in October.
Mixed exports fell to 110,691 tonnes in November, from 127,240 tonnes in October.
Exports of news & pams were down to the lowest level since April 2021 in November dropping to 19,042 tonnes, compared to 23,634 tonnes in October.
OCC – Commodity code 470710
Turkey was the clear leader for OCC exports in November with 52,993 tonnes. This was an increase from 29,281 tonnes in October.
Malaysia was next and exports were also up from October to 38,744 tonnes in November compared to 26,337 tonnes in the month before.
India dropped to 31,688 tonnes, from October’s 41,653 tonnes.
Vietnam took 29,345 tonnes in November falling from 39,274 tonnes in the previous month,
Next was the EU as a whole, dropping to 19,084 tonnes in November compared to October’s 21,121 tonnes. Exports to the EU have fallen for four months in a row now and have virtually dropped by a third from July 2022’s 57,090 tonnes.
In November, exports to the Netherlands were 7,679 tonnes, lower than October’s 7,955 tonnes. Germany was next in the EU with 5,141 tonnes, not too different from 5,279 tonnes in the month before. France imported 3,824 tonnes of UK OCC in November, down from 4,997 tonnes in October. Belgium was also lower with 1,062 tonnes from October’s 1,596 tonnes.
After the EU, Indonesia came next with 11,012 tonnes, dropping from 16,812 tonnes in October.
Thailand was also down to 7,173 tonnes in November, lower than 11,945 tonnes in the previous month.

India bought almost half of mixed paper exported from the UK in November 2022 with 50,967 tonnes, up from 48,732 tonnes in October.
The EU in total took 23,307 tonnes, down from 30,711 tonnes in the month before. Of this, the Netherlands imported 14,285 tonnes lower than October’s 19,281 tonnes. Germany also fell to 5,935 tonnes in November from 7,990 tonnes in October. France took 1,204 tonnes in November, lower than October’s 1,742 tonnes. Belgium was up though to 1,002 tonnes, from 620 tonnes in the previous month.
Vietnam dropped to 17,992 tonnes in November compared to 18,826 tonnes the month before.
Thailand was also down to 5,563 tonnes, from 9,000 tonnes in October.
Indonesia fell to 5,529 tonnes compared to October’s 13,624 tonnes.
Malaysia was up to 3,784 tonnes in November, while October saw 2,537 tonnes sent there.
Turkey was down to 1,358 tonnes, lower than 2,034 tonnes in the previous month.
Pakistan increased imports to 1,239 tonnes, compared to 763 tonnes in October.

The EU remained the key export destination for this grade, albeit falling to 11,764 tonnes in November, compared to October’s 13,162 tonnes.
Of this, 8,027 tonnes went to Germany (9,060 tonnes in October), and 2,166 tonnes was exported to the Netherlands (2,360 tonnes in October).
India was the other main destination with 6,036 tonnes, lower than 8,909 tonnes in the previous month.
