OCC and news & pam saw large increases in export volumes in October, but mixed was down a little.
A total of 200,280 tonnes of OCC was exported in October, compared to 157,988 tonnes in September. This was the best month for OCC since May.
Mixed dropped a little to 147,450 tonnes in October, from 151,515 tonnes the month before. However, September was a very strong month, so this was still a good month.
It was a good month for news & pam with these increasing to 32,410 tonnes from 21,204 tonnes.
OCC – Commodity code 470710
Turkey was the biggest buyer of OCC from the UK in October taking 37,374 tonnes, compared to just 2,396 tonnes in September. This was the best month for Turkey since 51,639 tonnes went there in June.
The entire EU was the next best destination with 35,532 tonnes, up from September’s 30,818 tonnes.
Of this, 12,805 tonnes went via The Netherlands (9,868 tonnes in September), then 9,355 tonnes went to Germany (8,464 tonnes in September), 5,678 tonnes went to France (3,981 tonnes in September), 3,253 tonnes to Spain (4,139 tonnes in September), 2,146 tonnes to Belgium (2,610 tonnes in September) and 1,755 tonnes to Poland (1,399 tonnes in September).
After the EU was Malaysia with October seeing 33,907 tonnes heading there, up from 21,388 tonnes in the previous month.
Thailand was next with 31,354 tonnes, down from September’s 38,759 tonnes.
This was followed by Vietnam with 26,114 tonnes, lower than 28,316 tonnes the month before.
India fell to 18,255 tonnes from September’s 25,386 tonnes.
Indonesia took 13,653 tonnes more than doubling 6,407 tonnes in the earlier month.
In what appears to be a trend, China somehow received 3,250 tonnes in October, increasing from 3,000 tonnes in September and 1,750 tonnes in August. Interesting.

Mixed paper – Commodity code 470790
With 51,460 tonnes heading there, the EU was again the main destination for mixed paper in October. This was an increase from 40,321 tonnes in September.
Of this, 33,825 tonnes went to Netherlands’ ports, increasing from September’s 28,618 tonnes. Germany imported 10,139 tonnes in October from the UK, increasing from 7,027 tonnes the month before. France took 5,713 tonnes, up from 3,506 tonnes in September.
Thailand followed the EU with 38,975 tonnes, decreasing from 42,655 tonnes in the previous month.
Indonesia was next with 19,553 tonnes in October, jumping from 14,873 tonnes in September.
India eased back to 17,591 tonnes from 20,364 tonnes in the month before.
Vietnam followed with 13,788 tonnes, almost halving from September’s 24,518 tonnes.
Malaysia also dropped to 2,625 tonnes from 3,232 tonnes in September.
Pakistan took 2,168 tonnes up from 1,661 tonnes the month previously.

News & Pams – Commodity code 470730
The EU as a whole was the majority destination for UK news & pams exports with 22,431 tonnes heading there in October, from 9,007 tonnes in September.
Most of this went to Germany which bought 14,324 tonnes, up from 4,359 tonnes the month before.
The Netherlands was next with 5,075 tonnes, increasing from September’s 2,712 tonnes. France imported 1,402 tonnes (940 tonnes in September) and Belgium 1,019 tonnes (455 tonnes in September).
Exports to India fell to 7,048 tonnes from September’s 8,195 tonnes.
It was the same with Turkey which dropped to 1,291 tonnes from 2,125 tonnes the month before.
