There wasn’t much difference between the volumes of OCC and mixed paper exported in September, suggesting we may have a month in the future where more mixed is exported than OCC.

A total of 157,989 tonnes of OCC was exported from the UK in September, according to the latest HMRC data. This was down from 172,375 tonnes in August. This also meant September was the second worst month of the year so far, only followed by July. Interestingly, this is perhaps a consequence of both shortages of materials and difficulties exporting.

Mixed paper though wasn’t far behind having its best month in more than three years with 151,515 tonnes exported, up from the previous record holder of 143,768 tonnes in August.

News & pam exports fell in September to 21,204 tonnes, down from August’s 28,972 tonnes.
