September brought improvements to exports of OCC, mixed and news and pams compared to August, according to the latest HMRC data.
For OCC and mixed, the story though was of weakening European exports and a rebound from India in particular.
While India also bought more news and pams in September, so too did Europe.
In total, 158,739 tonnes was exported in September, which was an improvement on August’s 146,548 tonnes. August had been the weakest month of the year so far, but only April had seen less tonnes move abroad than September.
Mixed improved to 105,846 tonnes in September, from just 80,038 tonnes in August. In the first six months of 2022, an average of 139,554 tonnes was exported each month, so even despite this improvement it remains low compared to January to June 2022.
It was a reasonable month for news and pams exports though, reaching 30,701 tonnes in September, from 23,347 tonnes in August. This was the first time exports had breached 30,000 tonnes since May.
