Please note this report just focuses on the waste polymers of ethylene commodity code (391510), as exports of other plastics are relatively small in volume
Exports of PE-based plastics slumped again in January 2020, according to the latest HMRC data.
Just 17,821 tonnes was exported in the first month of the year, down again from the low 19,750 tonnes sent abroad in December.
The main destination for this material was the EU with an overall total of 10,122 tonnes up from December’s 9,480 tonnes.
Poland was the key country taking 3,479 tonnes, up from 2,992 tonnes in December.
However, the Netherlands was down to 1,548 tonnes from 2,116 the month before. Germany was up though to 1,220 tonnes from December’s 1,083 tonnes.
Turkey was the most significant non-European buyer with 6,101 tonnes going there down from 6,940 tonnes in December, according to the HMRC stats.
Malaysia was next best with 2,557 tonnes of UK material headed there in January just up from 2,416 tonnes a month before.
At 1,586 tonnes, Hong Kong remained a significant destination, albeit lower in January from a month earlier when 2,439 tonnes was sent there.
