Please note this report just focuses on the waste polymers of ethylene commodity code (391510), as exports of other plastics are relatively small in volume
Exports of PE-based waste polymers increased to 27,854 tonnes in November – the best month since August and third best of the year – with one surprise destination leading the way.
The United States came from nowhere to take 10,019 tonnes in November, with it never really having taken any significant tonnage previously. This is possibly a reflection of the very high price being paid for HDPE in particular in the US.
Turkey was next best with 5,972 tonnes, although this was lower than October’s 8,264 tonnes.
The EU as a whole was only just behind Turkey with 5,965 tonnes, and this was also a drop from 9,675 tonnes the month before. Of this 1,291 tonnes went to the Netherlands and a surprising 1,277 tonnes went to Greece.
Malaysia imported 4,087 tonnes down from 5,299 tonnes in October.
Vietnam was the only other nation to import more than 1,000 tonnes of UK material with 1,013 tonnes heading there up from 333 tonnes in October.
