Please note this report just focuses on the waste polymers of ethylene commodity code (391510), as exports of other plastics are relatively small in volume

Exports of PE grades dropped considerably in September after a very strong August, according to the latest available HMRC data.

A total of 26,061 tonnes was exported from the UK in September compared to 48,935 tonnes a month earlier.

However, September’s total was more consistent with the export totals seen in other months in 2019.

The EU as a whole was the main destination, taking 7,843 tonnes in September, up a bit on the 7,367 tonnes exported the month before.

Poland bought much of this with 3,082 tonnes, up from August’s 2,930 tonnes.

Material moving through the Netherlands was next with 1,722 tonnes, an increase on 1,354 a month earlier.

Turkey remained a strong destination in September taking 6,300 tonnes, up from 5,231 tonnes in August.

Hong Kong’s 5,135 tonnes represented a fall on 9,843 tonnes seen the month before.

Malaysia’s 2,644 tonnes was a more normal month for the country, compared to the outlier of 23,891 tonnes seen a month earlier.

An interesting note is that Ukraine took 1,397 tonnes in September after having taken relatively small orders in the preceding three months. Is this a new destination potentially?
