The joint venture is between France’s cosmetics packaging company Albéa Group and India’s plastics moulding company Creative Group.

It aims to remove packaging that does not contain recycled plastic from shelves, and will use unspecified innovations in plastics recycling to do this.

A 5-year contract with a major user of packaging has already been secured.

The facility has received investment worth millions of pounds from Wirral Council, Growth Platform, Alliance Fund Managers, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and the Department for International Trade.

At the site, more than 10,000 tonnes of plastics per year will be processed for use in packaging, and more than 50% of this will be recycled content.

Albéa Group president and chief executive François Luscan said: “Creative and Albéa are leaders in their field; two industrial companies focused on delivering value to their customers in FMCG by being ready and willing to invent and invest.

“This project brings together a partnership of companies sharing a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility, with project partners and customers paying a lot of attention to their local community. The past two years have demonstrated that resilience always starts in the community, and the economic, social and environmental value of supply chains that are shorter, agile and solidary.”
