A manufacturing facility that will use recycled plastic packaging is going to be constructed on the Wirral, Merseyside.
A joint venture called Albéa Creative UK will operate the factory that will manufacture packaging containing recycled content for the FMCG sector.
The joint venture is between France’s cosmetics packaging company Albéa Group and India’s plastics moulding company Creative Group.
It aims to remove packaging that does not contain recycled plastic from shelves, and will use unspecified innovations in plastics recycling to do this.
A 5-year contract with a major user of packaging has already been secured.
The facility has received investment worth millions of pounds from Wirral Council, Growth Platform, Alliance Fund Managers, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and the Department for International Trade.
At the site, more than 10,000 tonnes of plastics per year will be processed for use in packaging, and more than 50% of this will be recycled content.
