January saw a decline in the total amount of recycled polymers of ethylene being imported compared to December.
Globally, the UK exported just 19,562 tonnes, down from 27,701 tonnes a month earlier. This is also down on January 2018 when 23,412 tonnes was sent abroad.
The EU continued to purchase the highest quantity of this materials, importing 8,477 tonnes. This is an increase on December’s figure of 5,760 tonnes. Poland bought the highest amount in the EU (3,747 tonnes), followed by Spain (1,383 tonnes).
Over the last few months, Vietnam’s importation of this material has varied, and the pattern has continued into January. The UK sent zero amounts to the country, following the trend of August, October and December.
Turkey was the main buyer of this material, as it imported 5,643 tonnes this month. However, this is down on last month when it bought 7,588 tonnes.
Malaysia decreased the amount it imported, buying 1,318 tonnes, down from 2,140 tonnes in December. This is the lowest quantity the country has purchased since June 2014 (786 tonnes).
China’s import fell from 1,061 tonnes to 745 tonnes.
