Please note this report just focuses on the waste polymers of ethylene commodity code (391510), as exports of other plastics are relatively small in volume
Exports of scrap polymers saw some decreases in purchases from key destinations throughout September.
Globally, exports of this material fell in September from 26,305 tonnes to 23,551 tonnes. This is also dramatically down on this month last year when 37,943 tonnes was exported.
In August, we witnessed the significant decrease of Vietnam imports of this material from the UK, as it bought zero tonnes. However, in September it purchased just 44 tonnes. While this may be an increase, it is still a big decline from this month last year when 6,965 tonnes was imported.
Although the EU remained the best buyer of this material purchasing 3,921 tonnes, this is down on last month when 4,393 tonnes was exported from the UK. This is also the lowest amount that the EU has imported from the UK this year so far.
China increased the quantity of scrap polymer imports this month, buying 718 tonnes, three times as much as in August (217 tonnes).
The UK exported 2,304 tonnes to Malaysia in September, a slight decrease from last month when the figure was 2,317 tonnes.
