These are the latest HMRC export figures for December 2024 for key paper and cardboard grades. Only destinations of more than 1,000 tonnes per month are included.
OCC – Commodity code 470710
Exports of OCC saw an increase in total volume compared to November, with 233,770 tonnes departing UK shores during December, compared to 205,149 in November.
Far East destinations illustrated a mixed picture with the some destinations registering an increase, however, other destinations such as Vietnam have registered a decrease compared with November, with 36,001 tonnes registered for December, compared with 33,180 tonnes in November.
Destinations across Europe were also down on the whole, with the exception of Germany that registered a huge increase, with 26,125 tonnes in December, compared to 3,743 in November.

Mixed paper – Commodity code 470790
Exports of mixed paper have seen figures decrease ever so slightly compared to November, registering a total of 106,257 tonnes departing from the UK in December, compared with 108,207 tonnes in November.
India continues to be the dominant destination for mixed paper exports in December 2024, although figures are marginally down compared with November, registering a total of 39,492 tonnes of exported materials, compared with 47,130 tonnes in November.
All other destinations in the Far East registered a mixed picture, with only marginal fluctuations of materials received in December.
Exports to Europe reported a downward trend, with Netherlands and Germany significantly down month on month, registering figures almost 50% of what they were in November.

Exports of this grade saw a decrease overall in materials leaving UK shores in December, compared to November. Registering a total of 9,206 tonnes that left the UK in December, compared with 12,733 in November.
India was one of the few destinations that registered an increase with a total of 4,696 tonnes for December, compared with 3,916 tonnes registered in November.
All other destinations registered marginal fluctuations.
