Yet again, the plastic recycling trade was dominated by the PRN/PERN price.
With a fall of about £30 per tonne for this over the past week, it led to price falls for the physical material too.
Many across all parts of the recycling market have set their out of office on their email and headed off or stayed at home for a holiday.
In the paper sector, those that were still at work were finding material hard to come by, which pushed prices up a bit.
Copper and brass prices fell a little, but steel grades increased.
Against the dollar the pound was unchanged on a week ago at $1.31, while the euro dropped a touch to €1.10 from €1.11 last week.
Recycled plastics
As mentioned above, plastic recycling trade was dominated by the PRN/PERN price. From about £80 a week ago, it was down below £50 at the time of writing.
The impact of this was to lower prices for physical plastic packaging.
But the full price fall wasn’t shared as some residual demand for all packaging grades meant the fall was typically by around £20 per tonne. This demand seemed to come from Europe where there was an effort to secure material last week before the August break kicked in.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if the market remains quiet for the rest of the month, with September likely to provide more interest.

Recycled paper
With paper and cardboard for recycling hard to find at the moment, there was a slight increase in price for those able to provide it.
Inspection destinations such as China and Indonesia continued to pay the best prices for OCC, with the former still seeking to secure supply within quota before the ban.
Domestic, European and Indian demand for news & pam and mixed also helped these to increase a bit.
All of this was despite a fall in the PRN/PERN price by a couple of quid.
However, August is likely to be quiet with some mills also taking expected downtime for scheduled maintenance.

Recycled metals
Both copper and brass grades fell by £50 per tonne on the back of weaker demand. However, steel prices including cans saw a £10 rise.
