As a result, it is widely recognised as a first point of contact for those seeking secure shredding and data destruction services and is also well known for representing members and the sector in industry debates.

Restore Datashred are delighted to become UKSSA members and Managing Director Anthony Pearlgood said: “We were impressed with the high standards that UKSSA imposes on its members, backed up by an independent security audit of all sites.

“Customers can have confidence that a UKSSA member will provide them with a secure, compliant service at good value,” he said.

Commenting on the changing nature of the secure shredding and data destruction sector, he continued: “We are increasingly hearing of organisations going digital and reducing their paper output. However, we have found that the volume of paper created is pretty consistent with previous years. There is still a heavy reliance on paper documents, especially in the legal and healthcare sectors.

“We expect volumes to increase over time, but in the short term, we see higher volumes as a result of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) which come into effect in May 2018. We are already seeing customers taking a more ruthless approach to data destruction, and not keeping hold of documentation that they don’t legally need to. We expect this to increase between December and March, not only because of the new regulations but also end of year clear outs, which traditionally peak when businesses are quieter in their day-to-day life.”

UKSSA is planning a campaign to raise awareness on the GDPR regulations and the role that member companies can play in helping customers with compliance.

This will be launched early in 2018 and will focus on all types of data, not just paper as there is increasing amounts of data being held on magnetic media or hard drives. When this is no longer needed it is imperative that it is destroyed in a secure manner.

UKSSA members can provide flexible services covering the destruction of any material considered confidential including paper, archives, magnetic media, hard drives, ID cards, uniforms, counterfeit and faulty products.
