Spanish recycled corrugated packaging company Saica has announced it will build its first paper mill in the United States.

It will construct the corrugated manufacturing facility in the City of Hamilton Enterprise Park, which is near to Cincinnati, Ohio.

Saica intends to invest $72 million (£54.88 million) once the state-of-the-art mill is complete.

In June, the State of Ohio approved a Job Creation Tax Credit, and JobsOhio is supporting the project with grants. The project is also contingent on the approval of a Job Creation Tax Credit and property tax abatement by the City of Hamilton.

Saica Group chairman Ramon Alejandro said: “Saica Group’s know-how and experience in the production of lighter weight containerboard and corrugated packaging will bring high performance packaging and reduced materials use to the US market.”

Construction of the mill, which will source recycled paper and cardboard, will begin in September this year and is expected to take 18 months to complete.

Saica has not revealed the volume of material that will be produced by the new facility.
