Sainsburys to trial reverse vending

Retailer Sainsbury’s has launched a reverse vending recycling trial at its Lincoln store, which allows customers to return plastic bottles up to 3 litres in size, and drink cans bought from the store in exchange for 5p coupons towards their shop.

There will be a dedicated Design for Lifecycle Theatre at The Recycling Event on 2 July. Speakers include Waitrose, TerraCycle, WRAP, Roberts Bakery & many more. Info:

Up to 500 items can be deposited per customer, meaning they could save up to £25 off their shopping.

The trial is the latest move from the retailer in its aim to cut plastic by removing, reusing, replacing and recycling.
Sainsbury’s brand director Judith Batchelar said: “We’re delighted to offer a new way to help our customers recycle while saving on their shop.”
