The Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer has appointed Steve Reed MP as the new Shadow Environment Secretary.
He became MP for Croydon North in 2012 following a by-election. Prior to that he was leader of Lambeth Council from 2006.
His most recent roles within the Labour Shadow Cabinet were as Shadow Secretary of Justice from November 2021 and Shadow Secretary for Communities and Local Government from April 2020.
Although he hasn’t said too much on recycling during his parliamentary career, he did have a record in local government for promoting climate change mitigating policies including helping to establish the sustainable energy co-op Repowering.
