Nestlé is trialling a paper tub for its iconic Quality Street chocolates.
The food maker will send more than 200,000 of the recyclable containers filled with the usual range of treats to supermarket Tesco between now and Christmas.
The paper tub has the brand’s signature purple background and is embossed with gold foil. An integrated re-close feature allows it to be secured after opening.
Nestlé said the packaging had been subjected to “significant” testing to ensure food quality and freshness was unaffected.
Chocolate chiefs will evaluate the tub’s popularity with shoppers, suppliers and retailers.
Jemma Handley, senior brand manager for Quality Street, said “a lot of care and hard work” had gone into the trial.
“The beautiful design has been devised specifically for a paper product and we love how it looks,” she added.
“Of course, shoppers can expect the same great tasting Quality Street sweets that they know and love inside.”
