Dutch company Synova and Paris-listed firm Technip Energies have announced a strategic partnership to develop plastic chemical recycling technology.
The partnership will combine Synova’s plastic waste to olefins technology with Technip’s steam cracking technology with the aim of commercialising the process.
Synova’s patented thermochemical recycling technology takes dirty and mixed plastic waste and turns them into olefin monomers and co-products to produce circular plastics.
The technology was invented by the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) and with Synova has been further developed, tested and piloted over the last fifteen years.
Synova chief executive Van Morris said: “Chemical recycling is going to be a big business, and we have a technological advantage in the race. Partnering with Technip Energies brings the expertise, skill and reputation to achieve the last mile of commercialisation and allow this technology to provide a path to a more sustainable future.”
