A £100 million scheme to pipe heat from waste facilities has been proposed by Low Carbon South West (LCWS) for Avonmouth in Bristol.

The 10km pipeline pipeline would see heat from facilities such as the soon-to-open energy from waste facility from New Earth Solutions in the area and provide it to other industrial businesses.

Assuming funding can be secured, it is hoped the pipeline would be up and running in 2016.

LCWS has set up a private public partnership scheme and confident that funding will follow soon.

It could eventually be one of the largest heat grids in Europe.

LCWS chairman Alan Bailey said: “There is an appetite for this type of project. We have already spoken to investment banks who are willing to put up a percentage subject to due diligence.

“We’re very, very confident that with the right final development, that the funding will soon follow.”
