The UK Government is arguing for no new recycling targets in the updated circular economy package.
According to the Guardian newspaper, a position paper it has seen from the UK said that no new targets should be introduced.
The document said: “We feel that a greater emphasis needs to be given to other measures such as voluntary agreements with industry and incentives to reward behavioural changes.”
A plenary session of the European Parliament today will see MEPs vote on new proposals that may include a 70% target, but it remains unclear at this stage what the EPP group of MEPs will back.
