UPM preparing to close Chapelle newsprint mill

UPM has begun a consultation with staff ahead of closing its Chapelle newprint mill in France.

The facility, which is situated approximately 80 miles from Paris, takes 350,000 tonnes of newspapers and magazines to manufacture 240,000 tonnes of newsprint papers.

In September last year, UPM put the mill up for sale, but no buyer has been found despite discussions with interested parties. As a result, the decision has been taken to close the mill unless a suitable offer comes forward.

It is expected that the consultation process will be concluded by the end of Q2 2020.

The mill employs 236 people.
