Yorkshire distiller launches recycled-glass gin bottle

Distiller York Gin has launched a bottle made from recycled glass.

The beverage producer said the container was made by local manufacturer Verallia from previously-used products that had been crushed, melted and recast.

It claimed the Vista glass had been tested for robustness and strength and “passed with flying colours”.

York Gin said the new bottles had a “lovely blue-ish tint – which we see as a unique feature, not a flaw”.

The distiller added: “We craft spirits inspired by our city’s 2,000-year history. So using glass that has lived previous lives gives each of our bottles its own character and story.”

It added: “Sustainability has always been at the core of York Gin. We constantly strive to be as eco-conscious as possible while upholding the highest standards.

“We always buy local when local is best – and with this 100 per cent recycled bottle, sustainability and local manufacturing come together beautifully.”

Nolan Kane, head of emerging brands at Verallia, said “Creating 100 per cent post-consumer recycled bottles in the UK is a positive step forward for our industry.”
