LINPAC Packaging has been given a positive opinion on its super cleaning process for recycled PET (rPET) by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

As a result of this, the technology used in LINPAC’s factories in Spain, Italy and Germany for the decontamination of post-consumer PET produces a recycled product that “does not give rise to concern for a risk to human health” even when used with 100 per cent rPET.

LINPAC Packaging director of innovation Alan Davey said: “The EFSA decision has to be welcomed by the entire plastic packaging and recycling industries as it means that much more PET can now be recycled further benefitting the environment and sustainability agenda set out by many European governments and global environment agencies.”

The company has developed food trays that can contain between 50 to 95 per cent recyclate.
