A new recycling and reuse facility for aeroplanes has been opened by KLM UK Engineering.
Situated at Norwich airport, the plant that currently services planes, will also now take up to 12 planes in the next year to be dismantled at the airport. It plans to double this within the next two years and then increase capacity further.
Aluminium bodywork will be cut up and recycled, while components that are still licensed as serviceable will be recovered and reconditioned.
KLM UK Engineering sales director Dave Spalding said: “There is no-one else in the UK who can provide such a range of services under their own approval.
“Globally, the aviation industry has 12,000 aircraft which will need to be scrapped in the next 20 years, so there is huge potential for us.”
