A reshuffle has taken place in the Scottish Government following the resignation of Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead.

He resigned ahead of the planned reshuffle, with it believed he would have been moved anyway as a result of difficulties with farm payments from the Common Agricultural Policy.

However, he has also been a strong supporter and leader of developing circular economy policy in Scotland.

He is being replaced by Roseanna Cunningham who takes the new role of Cabinet Secretary for the Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform.

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “With climate change one of the defining challenges of our generation, I can confirm Roseanna Cunningham will take up the new post of Cabinet Secretary for the Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform.

“As well as driving forward work to allow Scotland to meet its ambitious climate change targets, Roseanna will have responsibility for our radical land reform agenda.”
