Amcor completes upgrade of Derbyshire recycling plant

Packaging giant Amcor has completed “significant upgrades” to a recycling facility in Derbyshire.

The Zurich-headquartered business said investment in the Derbyshire plant had boosted the “consistency and quality” of its output.

Amcor said its Heanor facility converted post-consumer and industrial flexible plastic waste into high-quality recycled polymers for use in packaging.

The firm has modernised the site’s wash plant and upgraded quality and safety systems.

“Recycling flexible plastics at scale is essential for achieving circularity and ensuring supply chain resilience,” said Gerald Rebitzer, vice-president of sustainability operations and advocacy at Amcor.

“These investments demonstrate our commitment to enabling high-performance packaging solutions with RecyClass certified recycled content.”

Local MP Linsey Farnsworth visited the Heanor plant to mark the completion of its upgrade.

Amcor also operates a recycling plant in Steinfeld, Germany, creating recovered materials for a raft of packaging applications.
