Arrest made after woman dies in collision with recycling lorry

A man has been arrested after an 89-year-old woman died following a collision with a recycling lorry.

North Wales Police said it detained the man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Officers said a collision happened on Brookes Street in Llandudno at about 9am on Monday 1 September. Emergency services including an air ambulance attended but the woman died at the scene.

Sergeant Duncan Logan of North Wales Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “The lady’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers. Our thoughts and sympathies are very much with them at this incredibly difficult time.

“The investigation is underway, and I can confirm that a man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and he remains in police custody.

“I would urge anybody who may have been in the vicinity of Brookes Street around the time of the collision and who may have information that could assist the investigation to contact us as soon as possible.”

Conwy County Borough Council said in a statement: “We can confirm a council recycling vehicle was involved in the fatal collision in Llandudno on Monday morning. Our thoughts and condolences are with the lady’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“The circumstances surrounding the collision are currently being investigated by North Wales Police, and the authority is assisting with those enquiries.”
