Costa Coffee is to trial pod recycling in more than 100 outlets across the UK.
The hot drinks chain announced a collaboration with specialist Podback for the initiative.
Costa customers will be able to pick up free recycling bags from baristas in all 133 outlets located within Tesco stores and take them back when full of pods.
Nine coffee shops in the Swindon area will also take part in the trial.
Plastic and aluminium pods from any Podback-member brands will be accepted.
Liz Higgins, head of sustainability at Costa Coffee, said: “We are always looking for new ways to make it easier for our customers to recycle our packaging.
“New front-of-house recycling units will be supported by increased messaging in store, which we hope will act as a reminder to customers when visiting our participating stores.
“The trial will allow us to gather valuable customer feedback and insights, which we will use to enhance our future recycling solutions for pods, cups and other packaging materials.”
