Almost 2 million multipacks of Crunchie chocolate bars are to be held together with stickers rather than overwraps in a move to slash plastic packaging.
Sweet-snack giant Mondelēz International is running the trial with UK supermarket Tesco.
The pair said Cadbury Crunchie four-bar packs would feature the stickers until early 2026 as part of a test-and-learn initiative.
As well as using 60 per cent less plastic, the new-look outer packaging will include a QR code linking to an online survey about the design and its usability.
Joanna Dias, sustainability lead at Mondelēz UK, said: “We know that more sustainable packaging is a key concern of our consumers, which is why we are asking for their valuable feedback on the trial.”
James Bull, head of packaging at Tesco, added: “This trial has the potential to drive forward change in the chocolate category while supporting our mission to eliminate preventable packaging waste.”
Mondelēz International has a global Pack Light and Right strategy focused on reducing packaging; designing it to be recyclable; using recycled materials where appropriate; and improving recycling infrastructure and capabilities.
The company last year announced that up to 300 million Cadbury sharing bars in the UK and Ireland would get new packaging that included recovered plastic in a move dubbed “the future”.
